Mary Harwell Sayler has studied the Bible, loved the church, and written poems since early childhood. She’s an ecumenical Christian poet, writer, freelance poetry editor, and writing consultant.

Since 1983 she’s worked with other poets and writers, first through home study courses and writing workshops then this website, her professional critiquing service, and various blogs on writing.

  • In 2010 Mary began the Christian Poets & Writers blog to discuss the unique aspects of researching, writing, revising, and marketing poems, fiction, and nonfiction manuscripts for readers of all age groups.
     
  • Also in 2010, Mary began discussing poetry on her Poetry Of Course blog and offering one free poetry critique per poet on The Poetry Editor.
     
  • 2009 began “tweeting” writing tips on Twitter and discussions about writing on LinkedIn. Blogging also began on two sites: Mary Sayler’s Blog and the ecumenical Catholic Poets & Writers.
     
  • 2007 began the Poetry Of Course website with articles and critique service to help other poets, writers, and editors at all levels of professionalism.
     
  • In 2006 the American Library Association (ALA) honored Mary’s life-health encyclopedia on muscles and bones as a nonfiction favorite for the year.
     
  • In 2005 the FL Committee for the National Museum for Women in the Arts featured Mary’s work.
     
  • Also in 2005 Mary was featured by the FL Chapter of Society of Children’s Book Writers & Illustrators.
     
  • In 2005 Two Friends Publishing featured her work.
     
  • In 2002 the FL art museum featured Mary’s poetry..
     
  • In 2001 she began to judge all genres for children entered in the annual international writing contests sponsored by Writers-Editors.com.
     
  • In 1999 Mary began judging the poetry entered in the annual Writers-Editors.com international writing competition.
     
  • In 1999 she was accepted for an apprenticeship with a Pulitzer poetry finalist at the Atlantic Center For The Arts in Central Florida.
     
  • In 1999 Mary presented poetry workshops at the Christian Writers Conference in Birmingham, AL.
     
  • In 1997-8 she became the first poetry judge for the Christian Writers Conferences in Glorietta, NM.
     
  • In 1988 Mary taught poetry and fiction workshops at first Christian Writers Conference in Titusville, FL with other sessions in 1991.
     
  • For 4 years she directed CWFI (Christian Writers Fellowship International) and edited/ published the bi-monthly newsletter.
     
  • In 1983 Mary began working with other poets and writers through correspondence study programs, writing workshops, and critique services.

 Personal Information

  • Born in Lewisburg, TN; Mary’s family moved to FL during her school years.
     
  • She received a Bachelor of Science degree with high honors in holistic nutrition/ natural health.
     
  • She can often be found in the kitchen playing with herbs or helping her husband restore their 105-year-old home on a lily pad-filled pond in Florida where the only honking traffic comes from sandhill cranes.
